In Tuesday’s (3/24) New York Times, Dave Itzkoff writes, “A work by John Adams, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, will make its New York premiere as part of the Mostly Mozart Festival, Lincoln Center announced. The piece, an opera-oratorio called ‘A Flowering Tree,’ will be directed by Peter Sellars and feature a cast of Indonesian dancers and American singers; it is scheduled to be performed at the Rose Theater on Aug. 13, 14 and 16. The Mark Morris Dance Group will perform new works called ‘Empire Garden’ and ‘Visitation,’ which Mr. Morris created in collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax, at the Rose Aug. 19 through 22. The opening-night concert, at which Louis Langrée will conduct the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra with featured performances by the pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and the mezzo-soprano Alice Coote, is scheduled for July 28. The festival runs through Aug. 22.”
