In Wednesday’s (2/2) St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Sarah Bryan Miller writes, “The winter storm caused the cancellation of Tuesday night’s annual town hall meeting for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, but the news the orchestra just announced is all fair and sunny. The numbers of both ticket sales and purchasers, particularly new ones, continue to grow, and there are some don’t-miss concerts scheduled for the 2011-12 season. Numbers for the current fiscal year are on track to equal or surpass those of 2009-10. … There’s something to wow most audiences in the coming season. There’s a strong dance theme running through the regular orchestral series, from an opening night that includes three important works by Igor Stravinsky—the beloved ballet scores for ‘Petrushka’ and ‘The Rite of Spring,’ with … ‘Les Noces (The Wedding),’ in between them—to a four-performance return by Hubbard Street Dance in February. … St. Louis will hear the world premières of Steven Mackey’s Piano Concert and Edgar Meyer’s Double Bass Concerto No. 3, the American première of Philippe Manoury’s ‘Synapse,’ the St. Louis première of Osvaldo Golijov’s ‘Sidereus’ and music by John Adams, Kaija Saariaho’s ‘Quatre Instants’ and George Crumb’s ‘A Haunted Landscape.’ ”
