Friday (2/11) on the Minnesota Public Radio website, Euan Kerr reports, “The Minnesota Orchestra will use a micro-financing model to pay for its latest ‘Inside the Classics’ commission. The half-hour symphonic work by New York composer Judd Greenstein is being described as a micro-commission. Inside the Classics host Sam Bergman says Greenstein will have full creative control, and with influences as diverse as Bach, Ravel, Phillip Glass, and John Adams, Greenstein’s music is always intriguing. ‘You can hear some 70’s funk in there on occasion, you can hear an awful lot of influences coming together,’ Bergman said. ‘It’s accessible but brainy at the same time, which I think sort of fits into the nerd-chic image that perhaps we have cultivated for this concert series.’ Greenstein will be present at all of the Inside the Classics concerts in the 2011-2012 season. The micro-commission’s website has already collected about $3,000 of the $20,000 needed for the project.”
