In Wednesday’s (2/16) Buffalo Business First (New York), James Fink reports, “JoAnn Falletta’s acclaimed tenure with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra has been extended. Orchestra officials on Wednesday said Falletta’s contract as the BPO’s music director has been extended through the 2015-2016 season. Falletta has been the BPO music director since the 1999-2000 season. She is the longest tenured music director in the orchestra’s history. … Falletta’s current contract was due to expire following the 2011-2012 season, but her management contacted the board of trustees about the extension. … Under the watch of her baton, the orchestra has landed a national recording contract with the Naxos label, had its concerts heard frequently on the National Public Radio network and satellite stations, played Carnegie Hall, been nominated for nine Grammy awards—winning two. From a financial standpoint, Falletta has been a key player in the orchestra’s annual fund drive and campaign to increase its endowment to more than $30 million.” Falletta is also the music director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
