In Thursday’s (4/14) Cincinnati Enquirer, Janelle Gelfand writes, “The kickoff of the planned renovation of Music Hall has been postponed a year to allow additional time to complete designs, assemble bids and negotiate with suppliers and contractors. The Music Hall Revitalization Company will announce today that the historic hall in Over-the-Rhine is now scheduled to close for construction in May of 2013. Estimated construction time will be 17 months, with the goal to reopen in October 2014. Previously, the hall was to close for construction in May of next year. … The scope of the project, estimated to cost $100 million, includes the main building and auditorium, as well as the North and South wings of Music Hall. Plans call for improved public amenities, a reconfiguration of Springer Auditorium, updated electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, state-of-the-art production facilities backstage and new office spaces.” The delay “means that the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops orchestras, Cincinnati May Festival and Cincinnati Opera will be in the hall for a year longer than planned, before they must vacate during construction. The groups will use the Taft Theatre and the Aronoff Center as performance venues during the construction phase.”
