KUHF Houston Public Radio has begun operating a 24-hour all-classical radio station, KUHA Classical 91.7, to the greater Houston community. The station first went on the air on May 16, following the University of Houston’s purchase of 91.7 FM earlier this month. Houston Public Radio’s separate KUHF 88.7 FM now operates as a 24-hour news and information station. Both stations are licensed to and operated by the University of Houston System. The new KUHA Classical channel will offer regular concert broadcasts from the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet Orchestra, The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, and Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. Nationally distributed radio programs that will air on the station include The Front Row, Exploring Music, Metropolitan Opera, Performance Today, and From the Top. The new KUHA Classical 91.7 is also streamed free online at classical917.org; programming schedules for KUHA can be found at http://www.classical917.org/kuha.php.
