Late Tuesday (6/7) on the Wall Street Journal blog Speakeasy, Nick Anderson reports, “Citing unspecified scheduling conflicts, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra announced Tuesday that it would not be presenting its traditional Concerts in the Parks Series this summer. The series, which brings the orchestra to a variety of New York City parks free of charge, is a traditional staple of the summer music season in New York. The announcement seemed to catch some parks officials by surprise. Calls to the public relations office of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation on Tuesday afternoon were deflected before the orchestra made its formal announcement Tuesday evening. The Philharmonic will appear in a free concert in Central Park on September 15 with tenor Andrea Bocelli, orchestra spokesman Eric Latzky said in a statement. The concerts in the parks series is expected to return in 2012, Latzky said.”
