A report in Thursday’s (7/28) Rome News-Tribune (Georgia), states, “To introduce the Rome Symphony Orchestra’s 90th Season, renowned soprano Indra Thomas will be back in Rome for an encore performance.  The Sept. 17 concert features Thomas in a performance of ‘Summertime’ from Gershwin’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ and Barber’s ‘Knoxville: Summer of 1915.’ … The Second Annual Concerto Competition winners will be performing at the April 28, 2012 concert.  One winner each in high school and college divisions will be selected to perform with the orchestra.  The RSO will also perform Copland’s ‘Appalachian Spring,’ Rossini’s overture to ‘The Barber of Seville’ and Faure’s ‘Pavane.’ The fifth and final concert of the season takes place on June 9 with a picnic at Darlington School featuring Sam Baltzer and the Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble.” Richard Prior is the orchestra’s conductor and music director.
