In Tuesday’s (8/2) San Francisco Chronicle, Joshua Kosman writes, “Management of the San Francisco Opera and the union representing the musicians of the Opera Orchestra have reached an agreement on a new three-year contract effective Monday. The agreement comes after three months of negotiations between management and members of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 6. It includes an increase in weekly pay for musicians as well as changes to the provisions for work scheduling, and it moves the health coverage for orchestra members to the same plan that covers the company’s administrative staff. Musicians and management also worked out a new Integrated Media Agreement that spells out terms for the creation and distribution of audio and audiovisual recordings. That agreement awaits ratification by the American Guild of Musical Artists, the union representing the choristers, dancers, directors and stage crews. … The contract talks came amid a period of concern for the financial health of the company, which has posted budget deficits in recent seasons. But both sides expressed satisfaction with the agreement.”
