The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in Florida has announced several ticket discounts that go into effect for its 2011-12 concerts. Among the changes are “$5-off Friday” discounts to concerts this fall devoted to Gershwin, Louis Armstrong, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Mozart; and “$30 Thursdays,” a limited-time discount in effect from August 15 through 19 offering two tickets to Thursday concerts for $30. “The demand for Symphony is as strong as ever,” said Executive Director Stacy Ridenour, “but for many people, price is a barrier. Making concertgoing more accessible is at the core of why we exist and this one-week special offer is a way to open the door a little wider.” The orchestra—which has been running its season-ticket campaign since March and instituted its individual concert ticket sales earlier than usual this season—reported a 12 percent increase in revenue for its highest-attended series compared to this time last year.
