LOIS ROBINSON has been named executive director of the Shreveport (La.) Symphony Orchestra following a national search. She goes to Shreveport from New Orleans, where she was general manager of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to joining the LSO in 2006 (initially as artistic administrator), Robinson served as executive director of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and also held management posts with Chicago’s Grant Park Music Festival and with the Kansas City Symphony. She practiced law for eight years before switching to orchestra management, a career move that began with her participation in the 1993-94 class of the Orchestra Management Fellowship Program administered by the League of American Orchestras. Robinson holds a degree in string bass performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Also announced by the Shreveport Symphony was the renewal of MICHAEL BUTTERMAN’s contract as music director through the 2013-14 season.
