In Monday’s (9/19) Press-Register (Mobile, Alabama), Jo Anne McKnight writes, “Evelyn ‘Evie’ Watkins, 49, leads a double life, sort of. She teaches English at Vigor High School in Prichard. That is her primary profession, one that she trained for at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She majored in English education and music education (vocal and instrumental) and minored in communications. She graduated from both institutions with highest honors and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa honor society and Sigma Alpha Iota, the international music fraternity for women. But even at a young age, Watkins had a passion for the arts, visual and performing. … She is principal bassoonist with Mobile Symphony Orchestra, and, in the past, served as principal bassoonist of the Gulf Coast Symphony in her hometown of Biloxi for many years. She also held that position with the Pensacola Symphony. … Among her other accomplishments, Watkins is a freelance writer/editor and an award-winning photographer. She is also very much involved in community theater.”
