Young Concert Artists has announced that the winners of its 2011 Young Concert Artists International Auditions are violist Veit Hertenstein, pianist Andrew Tyson, and violinist Paul Huang. The three were chosen at the competition finals, which took place at New York’s 92nd Street Y on November 12. Hertenstein (Germany, age 25), who studied at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva and the Hochschule der Künst in Zurich, was also a 2009 winner of the European Broadcasting Union’s Competition for Young Talent and the 2007 Orpheus Competition in Zurich. Tyson (U.S., 24), a master’s degree candidate at Juilliard, won the 2011 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition in 2011. Huang (Taiwan/U.S., 21), currently a student at Juilliard, won the Sion-Valais Violin Competition in Switzerland at age 18. Each winner will be presented in a debut recital at Merkin Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Winners also join the roster of Young Concert Artists, whose previous musicians have included Emanuel Ax, Pinchas Zukerman, Richard Goode, and Dawn Upshaw.
