In Friday’s (12/9) Denver Business Journal, Neil Westergaard writes, “Gene Sobczak, who has run the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities as executive director since 2007, has been named the new president and CEO of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Six new trustees also were elected to the board of the CSO, which has been wracked by controversy and a mass resignation of board members in September in a dispute with musicians over work rules and symphony finances. Sobczak was executive vice president of the CSO from 2002 to 2007. … ‘I am honored to have been asked by the musicians and board of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra to serve as their next president and CEO,’ stated Sobczak. ‘With my roots to the CSO dating back to 2002, I’m excited to be working again with this extraordinary organization and in continuing my service to the region’s arts and cultural community in this new capacity.’ At Arvada Center, Sobczak is credited with helping to improve the facility’s financial picture through the recession. Sobczak will officially join CSO management next month. Interim president & CEO Jim Copenhaver, appointed in October, will stay on during the transition on a project basis.”
