Musicians, staff, and board members of the Utah Symphony | Utah Opera were recognized on February 17 at the Utah State Capitol for the statewide impact of their education and community-engagement programs. Music Director Thierry Fischer and Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth both spoke on the Senate floor to thank the state for funding their programs, and members of the orchestra performed throughout the day on the Senate floor and in the rotunda of the Capitol Building. The Senate’s official citation recognizing the organization for its work mentioned services to more than 170,000 students and 9,000 teachers in Utah’s K-12 public schools each year, in programs that enhance teaching statewide core curricula in music, theater, and related subject areas.
