California’s Santa Barbara Symphony has announced details of its 2012-13 season, its 60th, which will open on October 20 with Nir Kabaretti leading Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony; Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with André Watts as soloist; and the world premiere of Santa Barbara Overture by Emma Lou Diemer, the orchestra’s former composer-in-residence. Other highlights of the season include an all-French program of Debussy, Ibert, and Saint-Saëns; Stravinsky’s Firebird, with the orchestra joined by the State Street Ballet and new choreography by William Soleau; the commissioned world premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff’s Concerto Grosso, highlighting principal players of the orchestra; and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”), with the Santa Barbara Choral Society, soprano Jennifer Black, and mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford.
