In Sunday’s (7/29) Post-Star (Glens Falls, New York), Doug Gruse writes, “The Philadelphia Orchestra not only will survive, it will thrive, according to Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Nézet-Séguin, who recently came on board as music director for the iconic symphony, is confident about the organization’s future after its navigation through Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which it recently exited after a reorganization plan. ‘I have absolutely no doubt. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here,’ Nézet-Séguin said. ‘When I came on board, there was no secret that the financial situation was not very bright, but I feel that we are really in the position to be at the forefront of what it means to be an orchestra of the highest caliber in the 21st century.’ With Nézet-Séguin at the helm, the orchestra, which opens its summer season at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, is writing a new chapter in its history. The music director credits the orchestra’s musicians with maintaining the institution’s high standards. … Nézet-Séguin will give a pre-performance talk on Aug. 10 with celebrated Philadelphia composer Jennifer Higdon, who has become a respected colleague, to mark the 10th anniversary of her commissioned work ‘Concerto for Orchestra,’ which is part of the ‘Masterpieces Past and Present’ program.”
