A report in Saturday’s (8/4) Daily News-Sun (Glendale, Arizona) states, “The West Valley Symphony Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Cyndi Miller, the newest member joining the Board of Trustees. Miller is the assistant superintendent of academic services with the Dysart Unified School District and joins other members of the board … ‘We are delighted to have a representative of the Dysart Unified School District join our board,’ said [Leslie] Fountain, president of the symphony’s Board of Trustees. ‘Our mission includes supporting music and arts education, and it will be wonderful to have her experience and ideas incorporated in our plans.’ In support of the 2012-13 season, the symphony has been awarded a matching grant of $4,500 from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the state arts agency. … The symphony’s five concert performances for 2012-13 will be at Valley Vista Performing Arts Center in Surprise, near the Surprise Recreation Campus. The season starts Nov. 4 with a performance of Dvorak’s ‘Symphony No. 8 in G Major’ and guest artist Katherine McLin performing Tchaikovsky’s ‘Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.’ ” Cal Stewart Kellogg is the orchestra’s music director.
