The Austin (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of MOLLY EMERMAN as assistant concertmaster. A native of Alaska and winner of the Young Alaskan Artist Award, Emerman is active as a performer and educator in the Austin area, where she maintains a private violin studio, coaches at Austin Chamber Music Center, and has served as a teacher and mentor for leadership seminars at the city’s Arc of the Arts Studio & Gallery. She has also worked as a teaching artist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and has performed in Japan, Malaysia, China, Switzerland, and across the U.S. Emerman holds a Master of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University. Several other musicians will also join the Austin Symphony roster this season as a result of auditions held in August: ASHLEY COOPER, section first violin; CALEB POLASHEK, section second violin; JILL VAN GEE, section viola; ANNA PARK, section cello; and KEVIN BERG, oboe III.
