In Saturday’s (9/1) Plain Dealer (Cleveland), Zachary Lewis writes, “The Cleveland Orchestra’s 2012 European festivals tour isn’t the only thing ending Sunday. Its three-year labor agreement, ratified in 2010 and retroactive to 2009, also expires at midnight. But the expiration doesn’t signal a work stoppage. A representative from the musicians’ negotiating committee said bargaining will continue at home. ‘Our negotiations are ongoing,’ said bassoonist Jonathan Sherwin, chairman of the committee. ‘We met several times before leaving . . . and we will be resuming our discussions when we return.’ Orchestra management declined to comment. The orchestra is next scheduled to perform at Severance Hall on Thursday, Sept. 20.”
