Alabama’s Mobile Symphony Orchestra and Mobile Youth Symphony Orchestra have received $65,000 from the PNC Foundation, which sponsors two student scholarships and performances with the Joffrey Ballet that took place over the weekend of September 8-9. The Mobile Youth Symphony Orchestra received a $45,000 grant to provide full-tuition scholarships for two students to attend the MYSO’s String Academy; the funds also support MYSO coachings with high school musicians throughout southern Alabama. The Mobile Symphony also received a $20,000 corporate sponsorship from PNC for the orchestra’s recent “Stars of the Joffrey Ballet” performances on September 8 and 9, led by Music Director Scott Speck and featuring music by Richard Rodgers, Elliot Goldenthal, and Arvo Pärt, as well as selections from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. The PNC Foundation, which focuses on childhood education and community and economic development, receives principal funding from PNC Financial Services Group.
