New York City’s Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of KRISHNA THIAGARAJAN as executive director, effective January 1, 2013. He is currently president of Symphony in C (Haddonfield, N.J.), and prior to joining that organization in 2010 served as senior director of artistic operations at the Rochester (N.Y.) Philharmonic Orchestra. Thiagarajan had earlier founded and directed Kammermusik Kurs, a chamber-music festival in Dortmund, Germany. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, he trained as a pianist and performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia before beginning his orchestra management career. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University and a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Maryland.
