The Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute has announced events planned for 2013, with workshops, rehearsals, and public readings of new symphonic works by seventeen jazz composers set to take place in Buffalo, New York City, and San Diego in April, June, and September. Events are scheduled for April 23 and 24 with the Buffalo Philharmonic, led by BPO Associate Conductor Kraemer; June 3 and 4 with the American Composers Orchestra, in New York City; and September 19 and 20 with the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, in California, led by Music Director Steven Schick. The readings are presented by American Composers Orchestra and the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University, in cooperation with EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network. EarShot is coordinated by American Composers Orchestra in collaboration with American Composers Forum, the League of American Orchestras, and New Music USA. The first JCOI Readings took place at Columbia University in New York City in August 2012. Each participating composer receives coaching from mentor composers, as well as feedback from orchestra principal musicians, conductors, and librarians.
