The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra in Maryland announced this week that it has expanded its Adopt-a-School education program to Annapolis High School, where members of the ASO string and brass sections have begun mentoring and coaching orchestra and band students. The program expansion was made possible by a grant from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation. Musicians from the Annapolis Symphony already participate in the Adopt-A-School program, working with students in Anne Arundel County middle and elementary schools in tandem with those schools’ music teachers. In addition to providing individual coaching, ASO musicians help students at all levels to prepare for local music competitions. “We have had enormous success with our elementary and middle school partners and wanted to continue to serve the needs of high school musicians,” said Katharene Snavely, the ASO’s executive director.
