ROBERT FRANZ has been named to a three-year term as music director of the Windsor (Ontario) Symphony Orchestra, effective July 1, 2013. He is now in his fifth season as music director of the Boise (Idaho) Philharmonic, and also serves as associate conductor of the Houston Symphony, as music director of Alaska’s Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival Opera and Orchestra, and as a frequent guest conductor at orchestras throughout the U.S. Past positions include music director, Mansfield (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra; resident conductor, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; and associate conductor, Louisville Orchestra. As conductor of education concerts at the Buffalo and Louisville orchestras his work resulted in those orchestras receiving ASCAP’s Leonard Bernstein Award for Educational Programming in 2008 and 2001, respectively. In 1997 he was a participant in the National Conductor Preview, a program administered by the League of American Orchestras. Franz holds a master’s degree in conducting and bachelor’s in oboe performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts.
