Houston Symphony Associate conductor Robert Franz will conduct a free 100th-birthday concert on June 21 at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, marking the anniversary of the orchestra’s first public concert. The concert, to be broadcast live on Houston’s KTRK Channel 13, will feature a mix of classical and pop selections and will conclude with a fireworks display. Joining the HSO at the concert will be American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones, the Memorial High School Choir, the University of Houston’s Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band, and Westside High School’s Inertia Dance Company. A photo contest during the concert called OH SNAP! will encourage audience members to upload photos from any Summer Symphony Nights concert to the HSO’s Flickr page. The contest’s grand-prize winner will receive $300, and other winners will receive tickets to future Houston Symphony concerts and have their photos featured on the HSO website, e-news, and blog.
