On Monday night, the big news for hockey fans was that the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 to win the Stanley Cup Final. Just last week, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and its music director, Riccardo Muti, got into the act with a YouTube video posted on June 19. In the video, Muti wears a personalized Blackhawks sweater to lead the orchestra in the “Chelsea Dagger” goal song by the Fratellis. “It’s the song every Blackhawks fan loves to hear as often as possible at the United Center, just not how it normally sounds,” reads a Thursday (6/20) report at the CBS website. “The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is saluting the Blackhawks’ run to the Stanley Cup Final with their own take on ‘Chelsea Dagger.’ We’re used to hearing it on guitar, bass and drums, but the sound of The Fratelli’s on horns, violins and cellos has a nice ring to it.” The video received more than 30,000 hits on its first night. It also appeared on the homepage of the CSO, the Chicago Tribune, on the Blackhawks website, Yahoo! Sports, and was aired on NBC Sports during the game, as well as on NHL Network, NHL.com, and at the game itself. It was also been widely tweeted and shared over social media.
