The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and Lubbock Moonlight Musicals are collaborating this November to present the Boublil-Schönberg musical Les Misérables at the Lubbock Civic Center Theatre. The production follows more than a year of planning and represents a variety of Lubbock-based arts groups and artists. The cast includes Lubbock natives David Gaschen (Jean Valjean) and Rebecca Saathoff Davis (Cosette); Gerald Dolter, artistic director of Lubbock Moonlight Musicals and a professor of voice at Texas Tech, will portray Inspector Javert. At performances from November 21 to 24, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra will perform in the Civic Center pit, under the direction of Lubbock Chorale Music Director John Hollins. The director of the production is Bill Gelber, a professor of theater at Texas Tech, and the choreographer is Yvonne Racz Key, artistic director of Ballet Lubbock. Advanced students from Texas Tech Music Theatre will play minor characters and sing in the chorus, and members of the Lubbock Chorale will also appear in chorus roles.
