MICHAEL GELLER, president and CEO of the American Composers Orchestra in New York City, will step down in December following twenty years in the post. He is leaving the ACO to attend to personal and family obligations while considering new professional opportunities. In addition to his achievements with the ACO, which include overseeing the orchestra’s first touring performances in twenty years, Geller has brought new music to the fore and connected the ACO and other orchestras around the country with composers through such programs as the the Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute; Coming to America, an exploration of the work of immigrant composers; and the EarShot program of composer readings and premieres, sharing resources and expertise with orchestras. (EarShot is a partnership among the League of American Orchestras, American Composers Orchestra, American Composers Forum, and New Music USA.) A search committee, to be aided by an executive search firm, has been formed by the ACO Board of Directors to select Geller’s successor.
