League of American Orchestras President and CEO Jesse Rosen has announced the appointments of two senior executives: JAY GOLAN as vice president for development and STEPHEN LISNER to the newly created post of chief operating officer. Both appointments took effect October 1.
Golan, who had been serving as interim vice president for development since June 2011, has held numerous fundraising, management, and consulting roles over the past 25 years, including senior director of development at Carnegie Hall; president of the Birthright Israel Foundation; and consultant to New York Public Radio and New York City’s Park Avenue Armory. In addition to his League post he will retain a consulting client and continue as a strategic planning advisor for the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Golan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Harvard University. He was also a Knox Fellow at Queen’s College, Oxford, and received a master’s degree from Columbia University Business School.
Lisner came to the League in May 2009 as vice president for finance and administration. He has extensive background in financial management and administration of human services, including posts at the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, American Place Theatre, and New York City Ballet. As chief operating officer at the League he will oversee strategic implementation across departments in addition to his financial management responsibilities. Lisner holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Beloit College, a certificate in Performance Measurement for Effective Management of Nonprofits from Harvard Business School, and a certificate from the Institute for Nonprofit Management at Columbia University Business School.
