New York City Opera has announced the appointment of EDWARD YIM as director of artistic planning, and STEPHEN BLIER as casting advisor. Yim joins the opera company’s staff following three years at IMG Artists North America, where he has managed a roster of conductors, composers, and instrumentalists and directed the Conductors and Instrumentalists Division. From 2000 to 2006 he was director of artistic planning at the Los Angeles Philharmonic; previous posts include artistic coordinator at The Philadelphia Orchestra and artistic administrator at The Cleveland Orchestra. A 1992 alumnus of the League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Management Fellowship Program, Yim holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard College and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. Blier, New York City Opera’s new casting advisor, is artistic director and co-founder of the New York Festival of Song. He also maintains an active career as an accompanist and vocal coach.
