New York City’s Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of AYDEN ADLER as executive director, effective December 1, 2010. She goes to Orpheus from The Philadelphia Orchestra, where she has served as director of education and community partnerships since 2007. Prior to that she was director for learning development at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Before turning to orchestra administration Adler performed in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s horn section and taught horn, natural horn, and music history at the Eastman School of Music. She holds M.A., D.M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Eastman, where her dissertation was entitled “ ‘Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music’: Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, 1930-1950.” Adler received A.B. and M.M. degrees from Princeton University and The Juilliard School, respectively.
