San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory (SDYS) has announced that DALOUGE SMITH will step down as president and CEO on July 29 to accept the position of CEO of the new Lewis Prize for Music. AMBER WEBER, the youth orchestra’s current deputy director, will be appointed acting president/CEO while the board of directors conducts a search for a new president and CEO. During his thirteen years at the youth orchestra, Smith led the organization in restoring music and arts education to over 40,000 children through SDYS’s Opus program, school, and community partnerships; serving over 2,500 young musicians in SDYS’s Conservatory Program; diversifying the musicians in SDYS’s Conservatory; and initiating music and cognition research to understand the impact of music learning on brain development. Smith previously was associate director of the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego and production stage manager at Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado, California.
