KEVIN A. MARVIN has been named executive director of California’s Santa Barbara Symphony, effective December 1, 2016. He will succeed DAVID PRATT, who stepped down from the post this summer to become chief executive of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Australia; consultant Kathryn R. Martin led the Santa Barbara Symphony on an interim basis since Pratt’s departure. Marvin previously served as executive director of the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, was executive director of the Rocky Mountain Arts Association in his native Colorado, and before turning to arts management made his career in banking. A recent graduate of the League of American Orchestras’ Essentials of Orchestra Management course, Marvin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a master’s in nonprofit management from Regis University in Denver.
