An article in The Daily Telegram (Adrian, Mich.) on Wednesday (3/11) reports, “The music director of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra was praised by Lenawee County commissioners who voted Tuesday for a resolution recognizing his work in the community over the last 14 years. John Thomas Dodson is to conclude his leadership of the ASO when the season ends with an April 19 concert. ‘He has had a huge, huge impact on the community,’ said commissioner Terry Collins.… ‘Losing John Thomas Dodson is going to be a tremendous loss to our community.’ Dodson is well known for his ability to connect with audiences and individuals in presenting classical music, said commissioner Cietus Smith.… Smith said he hopes his successor will be able to continue moving the ASO forward in the future as Dodson has. …. ‘Mr. Dodson has raised the artistic level of the orchestra and engaged audiences by exploring new and non-traditional concert genres and venues,’ stated the commission’s resolution.” Dodson’s previous local honors “include the Lenawee Arts Award from the Croswell Opera House in 2008 and the Ross Newsom Award for Outstanding Teaching by Adrian College in 2009.”
