“The Akron Symphony Orchestra has a new director of advancement, filling a brand new position that the ensemble says ‘represents a renewed institutional emphasis on strategic planning for sustainability and donor stewardship,” writes Dan Shingler in Friday’s (9/9) Crain’s Cleveland Business. “Peter Grossetti has joined the orchestra in the new role. He was formerly manager of development for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.” Grossetti previously filled development roles at Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity, Western Reserve Historical Society, and Willoughby Fine Arts Association. He spent a decade as director of development at Ohio Ballet. Grossetti “joins the orchestra as the organization is working to expand its reach to both sponsors and potential new audiences, as it attempts to help foster and take advantage of a renaissance in downtown Akron that is bringing new residents to the city’s center. The orchestra has engaged in several new promotions this year, aimed at bringing in more patrons, especially from younger generations. It’s offered things like [Cleveland] Brown’s ticket swaps … has held a gospel music event; and even has experimented with crowdsourcing to produce music based on sounds recorded in and around Akron.”
