“The Akron Symphony Orchestra is tuning up for its 2017-18 season, one that will feature collaborations with local groups, a Northeast Ohio debut and, of course, works by legendary composers,” reads an unsigned Monday (3/20) article in Crain’s Akron Business (Ohio). “The season will include works from Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Stravinsky and Verdi, among others. Plus, ASO plans collaborations with Neos Dance Theatre and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. And on Feb. 24, ASO will celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘Gospel Meets Symphony,’ where voices from area churches form the Gospel Meets Symphony Choir in an event meant to bring the community together. The debut is ‘Video Games Live,’ premiering Saturday, Oct. 28…. Video screen visuals, lighting and special effects will be a big part of the show, which also will feature on-stage interactive segments.” Concerts with visuals also planned in 2017-18 are Pictures at an Exhibition, Petrushka, and Planet Earth (featuring Vaughan Williams’s Sinfonia Antartica). The season will include three pops concerts and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7, Tchaikovsky’s “Marche Slave,” Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, Brahms’s Symphony No. 2, and Verdi’s Requiem with the Akron Symphony Chorus and Summit Choral Society. Christopher Wilkins is the ASO’s music director.
