He currently serves as chief conductor of Hamburg’s NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, and intends to continue in that role during his tenure at Royal Swedish Opera. Gilbert also holds the post of principal guest conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony.… Dutch conductor Lawrence Renes most recently served as [Royal Swedish Opera’s] chief conductor from 2012 through 2017.
