Virginia’s Alexandria Symphony Orchestra has selected four candidates for music director, each of whom will lead a pair of concerts in the 2017-18 season. They are Michael Rossi, founder and artistic director of the Miami Summer Music Festival; James Ross, director of orchestras at the University of Maryland, orchestra director for the National Youth Orchestra-USA, music director designate of Spain’s Orquesta Simfònica del Vallès, and a conducting faculty member at the Juilliard School; Nicholas Hersh, associate conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; and José-Luis Novo, music director of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. The Alexandria Symphony’s next music director will lead his first concerts with the orchestra in 2018-19, the ASO’s 75th-anniversary season.
