In Thursday’s (9/30) Morning Call (Allentown, Pennsylvania), John J. Moser writes, “Allentown Symphony Association on Wednesday kicked off a $6 million fundraising campaign to update its facilities, add programming and music education and endow a conductor’s chair, and said it already has pledges for more than half that amount. The drive, with the title ‘Alive—with Music,’ is targeted to last up to three years, with the hope the money will be raised in two. Combined with the annual appeal, the drive marks the symphony’s 60th anniversary. … Officials declined to identify the significant corporate and individual donors who pledged $3.1 million during the campaign’s ‘quiet phase,’ saying details are being finalized. … The campaign will let Symphony Hall make physical improvements as it continues to pay down debt that had reached $2.7 million when Executive Director Sheila Evans came aboard 20 months ago. … according to information released at the news conference, part of the money raised would go toward $2 million in ‘completed physical improvements’ at the century-old Symphony Hall. … Also, $2 million of the fund would be used for programming and music education the association produces for children.”
