The American Composers Orchestra has received several multi-year grants, which will allow it to build organizational capacity and expand existing programs for emerging American composers and support the creation of new orchestra repertoire. Among the programs funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s two-year, $400,000 grant are the ACO’s Playing It Unsafe research and development laboratory, expanding new-music readings for emerging composers, and producing a new-music festival of works by American composers during the 2011-12 season. The Alice M. Didtson Fund of Columbia University has pledged $150,000 for the ACO’s 2011-12 festival of new music. A grant of $150,000 from the Fund for the City of New York/Open Society Foundation’s Performing Arts Recovery Initiative will support a variety of artistic programs and help the ACO expand projects with national reach. The Booth Ferris Foundation’s $100,000 grant will support marketing, fundraising, public relations, and audience development initiatives.
