The American Music Center has announced the recipients of its 2011 awards, honoring individuals and organizations for their contributions to new American music. They are composers John Harbison and William Bolcom; the Copland House, a center for American music based at Aaron Copland’s restored home in New York’s lower Hudson River Valley; the ensemble So Percussion; and the Walden School, a summer music school and festival at the Dublin School in New Hampshire. The awards will be presented on May 2 at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City to an audience of AMC members and guests. The American Music Center was founded in 1939 by composers Aaron Copland, Howard Hansen, Marion Bauer, Otto Luening, Quincy Porter, and Harrison Kerr; it provides advocacy and support for the creation and performance of new music.
