“It’s not just a promising Sarasota Orchestra concert, it’s an historic event. This weekend, the orchestra begins a new era as Anu Tali conducts for the first time since she was named the orchestra’s music director,” writes Mary Clear in Thursday’s (11/7) Bradenton Herald (Florida). The program at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota “begins with Dawn, by Heino Eller, a famed composer from Tali’s native Estonia. Also included are Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43, featuring pianist Lukas Vondracek, and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7.… [Tali] has conducted the orchestra … in 2011 and again last season. Her concerts have been exceptionally popular with audiences and Tali has an established relationship with the orchestra’s musicians and its officials. Tali is still young for a conductor, just 41 years old, but her history is impressive. In 1997, along with her twin sister Kadri, she founded the Estonia-based Nordic Symphony Orchestra, and Anu Tali served as its music director. In its 16 years the NSO has developed into an acclaimed orchestra that attracts musicians from all over Europe. Its current membership includes musicians from 15 countries.”
