Pennsylvania’s Allentown Symphony Association has selected six young conductors for participation in its Conducting Fellows Program this season: MATTHEW HOOPER, music director of Pennsylvania’s West Shore Symphony Orchestra; VERONICA SALINAS, resident conductor of the Kingsville (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra; SUZANNE ROME, a master’s degree candidate in orchestral conducting at Louisiana State University; FLAVIO GARBER, a conductor, pianist, and composer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina; GEOFFREY POPE, a doctoral candidate in orchestral and opera conducting at UCLA; and ALEXANDER KAHN, assistant professor of music and director of orchestral activities at California’s Sonoma State University. Each fellow will work with Music Director and Conductor Diane Wittry on one of six concert pairs this season, and will meet with Allentown Symphony staff members to learn the activities needed to support a symphony orchestra.
