The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointments of AARON LaVERE as principal trombone and MELISSA HOOPER as assistant principal oboe, effective with the 2014-15 season. Additionally, DARIUSZ SKORACZEWSKI, who has served as principal cello since the start of the 2011-12 season, has been granted tenure in that position.

LaVere, principal trombone, served most recently as principal trombone with the Oregon Symphony. He had earlier held principal trombone positions with the Atlanta and Kalamazoo symphony orchestras and the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra. LaVere holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the University of Michigan.

Hooper, assistant principal oboe, has performed as a guest musician with the Metropolitan Opera, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Hawaii and San Antonio symphony orchestras. She received a bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School and pursued further training at the University of Texas at Austin and at Aspen Music Festival and School.
