The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has named CHRISTINE MURPHY as assistant principal flute and has appointed three new violinists: JEREMÍAS SERGIANI-VELÁZQUEZ, CHELSEA KIM, and AGNES TSE.
Christine Murphy, a graduate of Columbia University and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, is the 2010 winner of the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute Concerto Competition and received the Dorothy W. Woodruff Endowed Scholarship at Rice University from 2017 to 2018. She began as the BSO’s assistant principal flute in January 2019.
Jeremías Sergiani-Velázquez most recently served as guest concertmaster with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the Grant Park Symphony. Sergiani-Velázquez received a bachelor of music degree from the New England Conservatory and a master of music degree from the Juilliard School. He is a first-prize winner of the 2013 Fundación Hebraica Competition in Argentina. He will begin his BSO appointment in May 2019.
Chelsea Kim earned a bachelor of music degree from the Juilliard School and is currently completing a master of music degree at Rice University. Kim is the 2013 recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, presented by NPR’s From the Top. She will begin at the BSO in May 2019.
Agnes Tse currently performs with New Jersey’s Symphony in C and has earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School. Tse is the 2016 winner of the Tanglewood Music Center’s Jules C. Reiner Violin Prize, and she will begin at the BSO in the 2019-20 season.
