The Chicago Sinfonietta has announced the appointment of SANDRA BAILEY as principal bassoon, effective with the 2015-16 season. A member of the Chicago Sinfonietta since 2013, and a graduate of its two-year Project Inclusion professional development program, Bailey, 21, is an undergraduate at Northwestern University, where she studies with David McGill. Prior to her Project Inclusion fellowship she worked with Chicago Sinfonietta Music Director Mei-Ann Chen at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. In the summer of 2012 she furthered her studies at the Castleton Music Festival in Virginia, and in 2013 at Brevard Music Center in North Carolina and at Germany’s Musik Akademie Westfalen. Winner of numerous awards, Bailey has appeared on National Public Radio’s From The Top and participated in outreach and fundraising performances with FTT host Christopher O’Riley.
