Music Director Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra have announced the appointment of MILES MANER as contrabassoon/bassoon. He goes to the CSO from the Kansas City Symphony, where he had served as associate principal bassoon/contrabassoon since 2010. Maner is also principal bassoon at Colorado’s Breckenridge Music Festival. Before joining the Kansas City Symphony he was principal bassoon in the Victoria (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with such groups as the Austin Symphony, Baton Rouge Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and Houston Grand Opera, and at festival venues including Tanglewood, Pacific Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, and the International Festival-Institute at Round Top (Tex.). Maner holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a master’s from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.
