The Fairfax (Va.) Symphony has announced the appointment of LUKE FRAZIER as principal pops conductor. Next season he will lead a November 8 pops concert called “I’ll be Seeing You,” featuring songs by such composers as Gershwin, Kern, Carmichael, and Ellington, and an April 11 “Civil War Portrait” concert that will include historical photographs, narration, and the National Broadway Chorus in a program including “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” music of Stephen Foster, and folk songs from the Civil War era. Frazier is music director of the Broadway Community Chorus of NAAP (National Asian Artists Project), and has served as music director and conductor for Chita Rivera and Rita Moreno. He created and conducted a “Christmas in Black and White” program featuring the Fairfax Symphony and a screening of silent holiday films. Frazier holds a master’s degree in conducting from Ohio University and a bachelor’s in piano performance from West Virginia University.
