Kathleen van Bergen, CEO and president of Artis—Naples in Naples, Fla., has announced the appointment of YANIV SEGAL as assistant conductor of the Naples Philharmonic, effective with the 2014-15 season. Segal is founder and conductor of the Chelsea Symphony in New York City. From 2009 to 2011 he served as music director of the Michigan Pops Orchestra (Ann Arbor), and he has worked as apprentice conductor with the New York Youth Symphony, the Princeton (N.J.) Symphony, and at the Manhattan School of Music. He has led the Krakow Philharmonic and Opera, the Castleton Festival Orchestra in northern Virginia, and the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Segal holds graduate degrees in orchestral conducting and composition from the University of Michigan, and earned his undergraduate degree at Vassar College. He received his early training in violin and began performing at age eight, playing chamber music with members of the New York Philharmonic and singing in the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus.
